Choose the interval that already matters
Read the word aloud and find the conceptual hinge. In PAUSE, the central interval can briefly interrupt the rhythm without changing any letter. A meaningful gap belongs to the word; an arbitrary gap only looks mis-kerned.
Keep the disruption measurable
Start from the normal spacing, widen one interval by a controlled amount, and keep every other relationship stable. One small color signal may acknowledge the pause, but the empty space must do most of the work.
Test whether the word reconnects
Shrink the artwork and remove the accent. The eye should still bridge the interval and read the exact word immediately. If the halves feel like separate labels, close the space until rhythm returns.
